Behind the Fashion: Princess Raelynn

What inspired you to wear Lolita?

I really found it by accident while searching my life long interest, the Victorian Era. I love the fashion of the time, the life style, the arts, and especially the etiquette. I mean, now I can dress in Victorian style, look good doing it, and not have everyone thing I’m from a renaissance fair! YAY!

What do you like to wear when not in Lolita?

I usually wear jeans, but I’m trying to break that habit in favor of slacks and casual but nice tops, rather than tee shirts. I also love sun dresses!

Are you in school?

If so what is your major/grade? Yes, I just finished up my 11th grade year in High School! Senior next year!

What would you say are your “non-lolita” hobbies?

Hmm, I suppose video games. I love to play Oblivion and DDR, as well as others. I also have a strange fascination with card games, though since the Alice movie I think Lolis have picked cards up (again, maybe.)

What kind of music do you enjoy?

I really like anything except hip-hop, rap, and screamo. I really like Miranda Lambert, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Linkin Park, and Shinedown.

Books?

I really like romance books, historical fiction, and books about mythical creatures (vampires, werewolves, valkyrie, witches, etc.) My favorites are the House of Night Series, the Immortals After Dark Series, and the Vampire Academy Series.

What do you think is the least Lolita about you?

My speech and my eating habits. I have the tendency to not be very nice when I talk, threatening is my biggest problem, though I can sound like the stereotypical loli at times. My eating habits are also not very loli. Most lolis I know try to take care of their bodies and eat healthy, I don’t. I don’t eat the stereotypical sugar all the time, but I eat potato chips and fast food ALL THE TIME!!

Any final words?

Uh sure, whether I’m in lolita or I’m not, I am who I am and that doesn’t ever change. There so much more to girls then the clothes they wear, and I am no exception.

Behind the Fashion

>

I’m sure we all have blogs we turn to in need of inspiration or perhaps we follow them closely. While I certainly love to read the blogs of others, the fashion tips, the photoshoots, the newest items bought, I believe we tend to forget these girls are actual humans with actual lives, aside from Lolita. We read their tips and thoughts on Lolita, but do they not go to school? Work? The grocery store? Do they not get sick? Sure we read their “about me,” but they usually just give style, name, perhaps some loli-able activities they enjoy. Usually nothing about school or work or what they do other then Loli. I often find myself getting frustrated that this or that blog hasn’t updated recently, but I always try to stop myself and say, “They have something going on in their life. School or work or non-internet friends” (Gasp, I know! Non-internet friends? What are those?) That’s why I’d like to start a small series per say. A series of posts about girls, lolis, with blogs. Essentially a series of questions, answered hopefully truthfully, about normal life. Just to get a glimpse of the girl behind the fashion. Granted loli is a big part of this girl, whether she’s in the clothes or not, but there is more. If anyone would like to volunteer to do this with me, that would be wonderful. I also plan to ask some of the girls from the larger, more popular, blogs if they will play along. But the first to go up, will be me. Why ask them to do it, when I haven’t? Look foward to that sometime soon.
On that note I’ll be off to hang with my non-loli friend. XD Oh and harrass the pizza man of course!

Oh the Shame!

>

Recently I’ve been looking at and thinking about that lovely Miss Caro-chan’s "Confessions..." post. And in this thinking, I’ve decided to make my own list of “Lolita Confessions.” This is not to say that I am ashamed of these, but they do go against the “norm” of lolita.

  • I like to show more skin then most. I, of course, wouldn’t do this to a meet up, unless it seemed appropriate, but I don’t like to wear blouses all the time. With JSKs or strappless OPs, I prefer to let my shoulders show. This may come from the fact that in the Sunny South, the less clothes mean the cooler you are.

  • I don’t always wear a petit coat. Most of the time I do, but not always. Sometimes I find they get in the way and can be itchy.

  • I don’t do my hair or wear hair bows. Granted sometimes I do, but most of the time I prefer to simply let my hair lay however it wants. Sometimes I’ll put in a barrett or ribbon, but straight or pig-tail braids are more common for me.

  • Very few of my skirts or dresses were intended to be worn as lolita. This isn’t to say that the petit coats don’t work with them, it’s simply that they were made to be flowy and loose. Mostly American brands.

  • I wear flats more than anything. I’m not one for crazy shoes. I’m clumsy enough on the ground, I don’t need farther to fall. Plus, I despise heavy shoes!

I’m positive I have many more, but those are the ones I can think of right now. Do you have any lolita confessions you’d like to share? Maybe we can all find a kindred spirit!

My Lolita Checklist

Eh, I’ve debated long and hard whether to make one of these, but I figured why not. I’m late, oh well.

>>

  • Likes sweets prints, but has an aversion to large bows.
  • Wear a lot of pastel or muted colours.
  • Prefers an OP to a JSK.
  • Prefers tights as opposed to knee socks.
  • Often prefers flats to heels.
  • Drinks hot tea whenever the moment seems right.
  • Loves the smell of Lavender and Rose.
  • Loves, Loves, Loves to ice skate.
  • Thinks a rabbit is the best and most loliable pet to own.
  • Prefers simple straightened hair with little product to curls or teased. Simple braids or pig tails, for example.
  • Thinks a flower “just cause” is a wonderful thing. Even if she picks/buys it for herself.
  • Prefers to search antique and vintage shops rather than deal with online shopping, shipping, and customs.
  • Likes to have a ring on each hand, one being her class ring.
  • Walks and moves in almost pose-like moves at all times. Ready for a surprise photo shoot at a moment’s notice.
  • Adores parasols and fans.
  • Finds inspiration in fairy tales and period dramas instead of the GLB.
  • When not in lolita, prefers to wear sun/day dresses or a skirt set.
  • Will jump at any chance to go for a carriage or carousel ride.
  • Fascinated with cemetaries, no matter how dark it seems. Also thinks a photoshoot in a cemetary is the best idea ever.
  • Sees old, and possibly dangerously falling apart, buildings as the perfect spot for a photoshoot.
  • Thinks a perfect summer day is made of a picnic with a Prince, or sitting under a tree reading. Not too hot nor too cold.
  • Loves the Super Poof! Never thinks she has enough poof.
  • Buys gifts for friends simply because it reminded her of said friend.
  • Forever changing, but is forever herself. No one can change her and if they’d like to, they are welcome to leave, and she is smart enough to shut the door behind them.

The boy who can be my best friend.

Have you ever heard the saying “Don’t look for the one can be the best boyfriend, look to the one who can be your best friend” ? That’s a saying I’ve kept close to my heart recently. Since my freshman year, this saying has meant so much to me. As much as it’s meant to me, I haven’t been able to follow it. I continue to look for the ones I think can love me the best or who can provide for me should we make it so far. I’ve been looking for “the best boyfriend,” but that’s not how I should have gone about it. Recently, I’ve rekindled a relationship with a dear friend, and dare I say crush, from sixth grade. His name is Hunter and he’s amazing. He’s an amazing friend. He’s kind and sweet. He volunteers, gives blood, is part of the Big Brothers & Big Sisters program, and he’s in the Marine JROTC at his school. He wants to spend time with me, and he never makes fun of me or laughs at me for not being good at this or that. I truely think I’ve found the boy who can be my best friend.
To add to all this amazingness, he also loves my Lolita. He doesn’t mind the attention it brings and I honestly believe he’ll be a man willing to learn more about the style. I also think he’ll be accepting of my lifestyle as he becomes more involved in my life. He seems the type to want to learn to make a perfect cup of tea or the type who would bring/pick flowers just because they made him think of me. I’m so incredibly happy to have refound him. He’s so perfect.

Alice in Ribbons

I finally went to see the new Alice in Wonderland movie! It was brilliant! The above out fit was what I wore for Easter and the movie.
The run down:
-Aerie tank top
-”One Star Converse” day dress
-Woodies wooden saddles
-Off Brand Parasol
-Claire’s Owl Necklace
-Ribbon (see below)
Obviously not lolita, but I felt pretty so why not post?

As for the movie, as I said above, it was brilliant! The costumes were amazing and truly inspiring! My favorite outfit was Alice’s while she was in the Red Queen’s court! I’m ready to see a replica of it for sale!

As I said, the costumes were amazingly inspiring! I, for some reason, have now decided I’ll be wearing white eye linear. I bought two kinds today, which I’m going to try in a few minutes. Something else the movie inspired me to do, fashion wise, is to wear ribbons in some way every day. In the above picture, you can see me wearing it on my arm. Laced up to about the elbow. I think it looks very pretty. Why do I want to wear ribbons? Because they are like me. They’re lovely, hard to rip and break, but easily frayed at the ends. They also serve to remind me that I am a princess, every day, and I am beautiful, even if just on the inside. I really like these ideas. I think they’ll work nicely.
